Renata De Bonis is an artist and researcher born in São Paulo, Brazil.

Her work brings together artistic practice and critical research around landscape, displacement, and the poetics of space. De Bonis holds a PhD in Processes and Procedures of Contemporary Art from São Paulo State University (UNESP), where she developed a methodology combining travel writing, photography, site observation, and theoretical reflection. Her research places contemporary art in dialogue with Land Art, phenomenology, and the historical construction of landscape, exploring how movement, monumentality, and territory shape both perception and knowledge.

She works through an investigative process based on walking and geographic displacement. Notebooks, drawings, sound recordings, and photography serve as tools to gather impressions and experiences, which are later translated into painting. Her paintings explore transformation, absence, and the passage of time, often focusing on fragile and changing states (such as the decay of flowers, the sun and the moon), to reflect on memory, perception, and ecological awareness. Through painting, she engages with the cycles of growth and loss present in nature.

Bringing together academic research and artistic practice, her work positions travel and careful observation as ways of rethinking landscape as both lived experience and symbolic construction.
